Pear Lab Diamond Engagement Rings: Teardrop Shape, E Color, VS1

The short answer

A pear engagement ring holds a teardrop-shaped diamond, worn with the point toward the fingertip so the finger looks longer. Franky Diamonds' house pear rings use lab-grown diamonds graded E color and VS1 clarity in 14K yellow or white gold, with total weights from 2 to 5.68 carats and prices from $2,800 to $5,300.

How to choose a pear shape

Pears vary more than any other shape. Three things decide how one looks:

  • Ratio (length divided by width). About 1.45 to 1.55 looks classic and full; 1.60 to 1.75 looks long and slim. Retailers disagree on exact cut-offs, so judge by eye.
  • Symmetry. The two sides of the tear should mirror each other, and the point should line up with the center of the round end.
  • Bow-tie. Most pears show a dark band across the middle. A faint one is normal; a heavy one steals sparkle.

Pears also look bigger than rounds of the same weight, because more of the stone faces up. A 2 ct pear is roughly 10.5 by 6.5 mm; a 2 ct round is about 8.1 mm across.

Protect the point

The tip of a pear is its weak spot. Look for a V-shaped prong or a bezel tip covering the point. Set the ring with the point toward the fingertip, the traditional way, and avoid knocking it against counters and doors in the first weeks while you get used to it.

Color and clarity for a pear

Every house ring is graded E color, VS1 clarity. In plain words: E is the second-whitest grade on GIA's D-to-Z color scale, so the diamond looks icy white even next to white paper. VS1 means the diamond has small inclusions that a trained grader finds with effort under 10x magnification; with the naked eye it looks clean.

Pears can show a little more color at the tip than the body. Starting at E removes that worry.

Lab vs natural pear

All our house pears are lab-grown. A natural pear of the same center weight and grade costs several times more. Lab-grown stones must be labeled as such under FTC rules, and ours always are. If resale value matters most to you, look at natural diamond engagement rings; if size and price matter most, a lab pear is hard to beat. See lab-grown diamonds explained.

Who a pear suits

Pears flatter short or wide fingers because the long outline draws the eye up the finger. They also suit anyone who wants a ring that looks different from the round solitaires in every other photo. A classic ratio around 1.50 reads elegant; a longer pear around 1.70 reads bold. In yellow gold a pear feels vintage and warm; in white gold or platinum it looks crisp and modern.

Pairing a wedding band with a pear

A pear's point can make a straight band sit with a gap. A curved or contoured band follows the shape and closes the gap. Some couples prefer the gap; it is a style choice, not a fault. Try both at the showroom before deciding, and match the karat and color of the band to the engagement ring so the two wear evenly over time.

Size, paperwork and seeing it in Miami

Questions people ask

Are your pear lab diamond engagement rings lab-grown or natural?

Lab-grown. All house pear rings use lab-grown diamonds graded E color, VS1 clarity, labeled as lab-grown.

Do pear lab diamond engagement rings come with a certificate?

Each ring lists its grades. Ask about the paperwork for the specific pear before you buy; it differs by piece.

Can the ring be resized?

Resizing is not in our published policies, and all sales are final, so confirm the size first. A platinum or 14K band with side stones is harder to size than a plain band in any case.

Can I see pear lab diamond engagement rings in person in Miami?

Yes, at 7900 NW 27th Ave, Unit 506, Miami. Call 954-504-5640 so the pears are ready.
