Natural Diamond Engagement Rings: Mined Diamonds, E Color, VS1
Natural diamond engagement rings use diamonds mined from the earth. At the same size and grade they cost more than lab-grown stones and keep more value on resale, which is why buyers choose them for rarity and heirloom reasons. Franky Diamonds' natural house rings are graded E color and VS1 clarity, in 14K or 18K gold, from $1,200 to $8,900.

What natural costs vs lab, with our own numbers
The clearest comparison in our case: Round Natural Diamond Ring 4.25 ct, 14K Yellow Gold ($6,000) against Round Lab Diamond Ring 4.62 ct, 14K Yellow Gold ($2,800). The lab ring carries slightly more weight for less than half the price. That gap is the natural premium. What it buys:
- Rarity: each natural stone formed in the earth; supply cannot be scaled.
- Resale: natural diamonds resell for more than lab stones, though below retail.
- Tradition: many families want a mined stone for a ring meant to be passed down.
Natural prices are not fixed either: the IDEX natural diamond index fell 11.5% from March 2025 to March 2026. Buy natural because you value it, not as an investment. The two-sided view is in our natural diamond guide.
What the word natural means legally
Under the FTC Jewelry Guides, words like natural, real and genuine may not be used for lab-grown diamonds without a clear qualifier, and lab stones must be labeled lab-grown, laboratory-created or similar. When our listing says natural, it means mined.
Color and clarity in plain words
Every house ring is graded E color, VS1 clarity. In plain words: E is the second-whitest grade on GIA's D-to-Z color scale, so the diamond looks icy white even next to white paper. VS1 means the diamond has small inclusions that a trained grader finds with effort under 10x magnification; with the naked eye it looks clean.
In natural diamonds, E VS1 is a high grade: only D is whiter, and only the VVS and flawless grades sit above VS1 on GIA's 11-step clarity scale.
Shape, carat and metal
Our natural rings come in 14K yellow, 14K white and 18K white gold. 18K is 75% gold with a richer color but is softer than 14K; 14K holds prongs better on an active hand. For how each weight looks, see carat size on the hand. For the full buying method, read the engagement ring buying guide.
How origin is checked
No jeweler can tell a natural diamond from a lab diamond by eye. Gem labs use spectroscopy and growth-pattern imaging to confirm origin, and major labs mark lab-grown stones as such on their reports. That is why the written disclosure matters. Ask for the origin in writing on your receipt, and for a natural stone of a carat or more, ask for a report from a major lab such as GIA or IGI.
Natural diamonds and value
Natural diamonds hold value better than lab diamonds, but they are not a savings account. Resale offers usually come in well below the retail price, and the market moves: natural prices fell through 2025 and into 2026. The honest reason to buy natural is that you want a stone the earth made. If the reason is to get the most diamond for the money, lab-grown wins every time.
Size, paperwork and the showroom
Get the ring size right first: all sales are final and resizing is not part of our published policies. Ask about the grading paperwork for the exact stone before you buy; for a natural diamond, a report from a major lab such as GIA or IGI is worth asking for.
