5 Carat Engagement Rings: Showpiece Size Without the Natural Price
A 5 carat round diamond is about 11 mm across, two thirds the width of an average finger: a showpiece. In lab-grown it costs a small fraction of a natural stone of the same grade, which is why most 5 carat rings sold today are lab. Franky Diamonds' house rings at 5 carats total and up run from $4,400 to $8,500, all E color, VS1.

Center weight is the number to watch
At this size, total weight and center weight split apart. R-0067 weighs 5.38 ct in total but carries a 1.82 ct center: most of its weight is in the halo and band. R-0001 puts 4.01 ct in the center. Both are "5 carat rings," and they look nothing alike. If you want a 5 ct center stone, say so, and compare center weights first.
How big 5 carats looks
| Shape | Approximate size at 5 ct |
|---|---|
| Round | 11.0 mm |
| Oval | 13.5 x 9.5 mm |
| Pear | 14.5 x 9.0 mm |
| Emerald | 11.5 x 8.5 mm |
| Radiant | 10.5 x 8.5 mm |
A US size 6 finger is about 16.5 mm across, so a 5 ct round covers about two thirds of it. A 5 ct pear runs from the knuckle line toward the next joint. See carat size on the hand to picture it.
Why most 5 carat rings today are lab-grown
Large natural rough is rare, and natural prices rise steeply with size, so a natural 5 ct center at E VS1 costs many times what a lab stone of the same size and grade costs. Lab-grown prices have fallen sharply since 2020, which pulled 5 ct stones into ordinary engagement budgets. Lab stones are real diamond and must be labeled lab-grown under FTC rules. Natural still wins on rarity and resale; lab wins on size per dollar.
Color and clarity at 5 carats
Every house ring is graded E color, VS1 clarity. In plain words: E is the second-whitest grade on GIA's D-to-Z color scale, so the diamond looks icy white even next to white paper. VS1 means the diamond has small inclusions that a trained grader finds with effort under 10x magnification; with the naked eye it looks clean.
At 11 mm, the top of the stone is a wide window. A warm tint or a dark inclusion that hides in a 1 ct stone becomes visible here, so the E VS1 standard earns its keep on big stones.
Wearing and protecting a 5 carat ring
- Choose six prongs, claw prongs or a bezel. Four thin prongs are not enough for a stone this size.
- Pick 14K gold or platinum for the head; both hold prongs firmly.
- Insure it on a scheduled jewelry rider. Every order we ship is insured on the way to you.
- Clean weekly. Big stones show dirt and lotion more than small ones.
- Take it off for the gym, the beach and heavy work.
Lab 5 carats vs natural 2 carats
A common choice at this budget is a lab-grown stone at 4 to 5 carats or a natural stone at around 2. The lab ring looks bigger; the natural ring is rarer. Neither is the wrong answer, and you can see both side by side in the showroom.
Size, paperwork and the showroom
All sales are final and resizing is not part of our published policies, so measure before you buy. Ask about the grading paperwork for the exact ring. A 5 ct ring is best judged on your own hand: visit 7900 NW 27th Ave, Unit 506, Miami, after a call. Smaller sizes: 2 carat, 3 carat, 4 carat. Shop lab engagement rings and all rings, or read the engagement ring buying guide. For a stone of exactly the size you want, try with us in the showroom first; in the case today the largest lab ring with photos is Round Lab Diamond Ring 4.62 ct, 14K Yellow Gold ($2,800).
Questions people ask
Are your 5 carat engagement rings lab-grown or natural?
Most are lab-grown. House inventory also holds a natural oval of 5 ct total. Every listing names the origin.
Do 5 carat engagement rings come with a certificate?
Each ring lists its E color and VS1 grades. Ask about the grading paperwork for the exact ring before you buy.
Can the ring be resized?
Resizing is not in our published policies, and rings with side stones are harder to size in any case. Confirm the size first; all sales are final.
Can I see 5 carat engagement rings in person in Miami?
Yes, at 7900 NW 27th Ave, Unit 506, Miami. Call 954-504-5640 so the rings are out when you arrive.
