Natural Diamond Pendants

A natural diamond formed underground and was mined, sorted and cut. Supply is limited, and that is what you pay for. Lab-grown diamonds are made to order in a growth chamber, so their price per carat is far lower. Both are real diamonds with the same chemistry. People often say natural diamonds hold value. The honest version: natural stones keep a stronger resale market than lab-grown ones, but jewelry resale is almost always well below what you paid at retail, for any diamond. Buy a natural diamond pendant because you want a mined stone, not as an investment. If maximum size for the money is the goal, a lab-grown custom piece is the better tool. E color is the second-highest grade on GIA's D-to-Z color scale. VS1 clarity means small inclusions that are hard to see even at 10x magnification; GIA notes that VS stones usually look the same as VVS to the naked eye. On a pavé pendant, matching matters as much as grade: every stone should be the same white so the surface reads as one field of light. Two-tone gold uses white gold under the stones for that reason, with yellow gold as an accent.

These are substantial pieces. Pair them with a solid gold chain of 4 mm or more, such as a Cuban, Franco or rope, so the chain looks strong enough. Check that the bail opening clears your chain and clasp. Most men wear a pendant like this at 22 to 24 inches so it sits mid chest. A solid chain is the right base for any heavy pendant, because the bail rubs one spot all day.

1. Is the origin stated in writing as natural, and the stones not treated or lab-grown?
2. What is the color and clarity grade of the stones? Here, E and VS1.
3. What karat is the gold, and is it solid?
4. Is there a grading report for any center stone? Ask before buying, since reports are not printed on the product pages.
5. Does the bail fit the chain you plan to use?
