Natural Diamond Earrings: Mined Diamonds for Rarity and Resale
Natural diamond earrings use diamonds mined from the earth. They look the same as lab-grown stones but cost more per carat, because supply is limited, and they hold more value on resale. Buyers choose them for rarity, tradition or heirloom reasons. A 1.00 ctw pair holds about 0.50 carat, roughly 5.1 mm, per ear.

What the natural premium actually buys
You cannot see the difference between a natural and a lab diamond without lab equipment. What you pay for with natural is the stone's origin and its scarcity.
| Reason buyers pick natural | What is true |
|---|---|
| Rarity | Each stone formed in the earth; supply cannot be scaled up like a lab. |
| Resale | Natural diamonds resell for more than lab stones, though still well below retail. |
| Tradition and heirlooms | Many families want a mined stone for pieces meant to be passed down. |
| Price stability | Better than lab, but not guaranteed: the IDEX index fell 11.5% from March 2025 to March 2026. |

Size per ear and how it looks
Earrings are sold by total carat weight for the pair. Here is what natural studs look like at common weights, for well-cut rounds.
| Pair ctw | Per ear | Diameter | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.33 | About 0.16 ct | About 3.5 mm | First pair, second holes |
| 0.50 | 0.25 ct | About 4.1 mm | Daily, office |
| 1.00 | 0.50 ct | About 5.1 mm | The standard gift size |
| 1.50 | 0.75 ct | About 5.8 mm | Noticed but not loud |
| 2.00 | 1.00 ct | About 6.5 mm | Statement |
Price climbs faster than weight. A 1.00 carat stone usually costs much more than two 0.50 carat stones of the same grade, because large rough is rarer. That is why natural studs above 2.00 ctw get expensive quickly.
Natural diamonds at Franky Diamonds
In the showroom, natural diamonds show up in our larger pieces: rings such as Round Natural Diamond Ring 4.25 ct, 14K Yellow Gold ($6,000) and pendants such as Mixed Natural Diamond Pendant, 10K White Gold ($5,900), each labeled natural with E color and VS1 clarity in our records. For a pair of natural studs or hoops in a set size, order through custom: idea, then design and the exact price before anything is made, then we make and deliver it.
Ask for matched stones. On studs, two diamonds that face up the same size and color matter more than a higher grade on paper.
Grading, gold and backs
- Color: GIA's scale runs D to Z. D, E and F are colorless; G to J are near-colorless and look white in earrings.
- Clarity: VS1 and VS2 are eye-clean at earring distance. VVS costs more for a difference you need 10x magnification to find.
- Cut: on studs, cut drives sparkle more than any other grade.
- Gold: 14K gold posts are 58.3% gold and are kinder to sensitive ears than plated metal.
- Backs: screw backs for anything over 0.50 ct per ear.
Questions to ask before you order natural studs
- Is each stone natural, and is that written on the paperwork?
- What are the color, clarity and cut grades, and who graded them?
- Are the two stones matched for size and color?
- What does each stone weigh, not just the pair?
- What is the exact final price? With our custom process you see it before anything is made.
Natural stones under about 0.30 carat are often sold without individual grading reports. That is normal; ask for the grade range in writing instead.
Seeing natural diamonds in Miami
Franky Diamonds has been in Miami since 2010, from a family in the jewelry trade since 1990. You can see natural stones next to lab-grown ones at our showroom, 7900 NW 27th Ave, Unit 506, and compare them under the same light. Call 954-504-5640 first to plan the visit. Care and safekeeping
Clean natural diamond earrings with warm water, mild soap and a soft brush. Check prongs and backs a few times a year; prongs bend from snagging on sweaters. Keep the pair in a lined box so the diamonds do not scratch other jewelry. Natural earrings are worth insuring on a home policy, and every order we ship goes out insured. More options: all earrings, the stud guide, the hoop size guide and, for men, the men's earrings guide. Current market numbers are in diamond prices 2026.
Questions people ask
What does ctw mean on earrings?
Total carat weight for the pair. A natural 1.00 ctw pair has about 0.50 carat in each ear.
Are natural diamond earrings good for everyday wear?
Yes. Diamond is the hardest gem, so the stones hold up; the weak points are prongs and backs, which you should check every few months.
Do you sell single earrings or pairs?
Custom natural earrings are quoted for exactly what you need, including a single stud. You approve the design and exact price before anything is made.
