Diamond and Gold Earrings

The short answer

Earrings are the largest category at Franky Diamonds: 184 of the 420 pieces in the live catalog, priced from $260 to $4,115. That set splits into 131 diamond earrings and 53 solid gold earrings, in 10K and 14K, for women, men and unisex. Hoops, huggies, clusters, solitaires, ball studs and gemstone pairs are all in the same case. No earring in the catalog is lab-grown.

How the earring case is split

If you only remember one number, remember 184. Rings are 86 pieces. Chains are 46. Pendants are 37. Bracelets are 36. Earrings are more than the next two categories put together. Prices run from a 3 mm gold ball at $260 to the Royal Pearl Earrings at $4,115. The median earring sits at $775, the same median as the catalog overall.

Karat is not a mystery on these. Diamond earrings are mostly 14K (94 listings) with a smaller 10K group (37). The plain gold hoops and balls are 10K. There is no 18K earring.

Total carat weight, and why most titles skip it

CTW means total carat weight: every diamond in the pair added together. A 1 ctw pair of matching studs is about half a carat in each ear. That is the number stud guides use, including the Ritani size guide we cite below. It is a useful idea. It is not how this catalog is labeled.

Only one earring title in the live file mentions carat at all. The rest are named for the shape or the motif: Baguette Hoops at $1,035, Spark Diamond Solitaire Earrings at $740, a butterfly, a cluster, a hamsa. Compare the photo and the price, not a carat number that is not printed. When a listing does not state carat, do not guess it from the price. A $1,000 pair can be a few small stones or one larger stone, and those two wear differently.

For a focused stud walkthrough, use the diamond stud earrings guide. For hoops, diameter in millimeters is the number that matters, and that guide is the hoop earring size guide.

Backings, karat and skin

Screw backs and push backs are not printed on these listings. A screw back is a threaded nut that locks the post. A push back, sometimes called a butterfly, is friction. Bigger or heavier stones are safer on a screw back because a push back can loosen over months. Lighter gold balls and small hoops are usually fine on a friction back. If the backing is the reason you are buying, call and ask about that exact pair. The comparison is written up in screw back vs push back.

10K gold is 41.7 percent gold. 14K is 58.3 percent. Higher karat is softer and richer in color. Lower karat is harder, which is why the everyday hoops here are 10K. White gold alloys in the trade often include nickel, and nickel is the metal that bothers sensitive ears more often than yellow gold does. We do not label any earring nickel-free. If your ears react, start with 14K yellow and read the care notes in how to clean earrings so perfume and soap are not part of the problem.

Lab diamonds, pairs, and how to wear them

Lab diamonds in this catalog are rings, bracelets and necklaces. Zero earrings have lab diamond as the stone. If a page online promised lab diamond studs from this case, that page is ahead of the inventory. Natural diamond, as a separate origin, is also not on an earring listing. The 131 diamond earrings are tagged and filed as diamond, without a lab or natural origin in the stone field. Do not invent a grade the listing does not show.

Most listings are made as the pair you see. A few titles use the word single. If you wear one ear, ask before you assume a pair can be split. Men's styles are clusters and pavé, not tiny solitaires, and they have their own page plus the men's earrings guide.

A simple way to wear the case: gold ball or small hoop for work, a diamond huggie or cluster at night, and one motif earring (evil eye, cross, hamsa) when you want a single point of color. Clean gold and diamonds with warm water and a soft brush. Take hoops off before a workout so the hinge does not bend. Custom earrings, if the shape you want is not here, start at custom earrings.

Photos flatten thickness. A 45 mm gold hoop and a 10 mm hoop can look similar in a square crop. On an ear they are not similar. The showroom is at 7900 NW 27th Ave, Unit 506, Miami FL 33147. Call 954-504-5640 and name the listing if you want it out of the case. Insured shipping covers orders that leave the building. A manufacturing defect has a 7-day window. Refunds are not offered. All sales are final.

The diamond-only cut of this wall is diamond earrings. Plain hoops are under gold hoops. Both are worth opening before you decide the budget.

Questions people ask

What does ctw mean on earrings?

CTW is total carat weight, the sum of all diamonds in the pair. A 1 ctw stud pair is about 0.50 carat in each ear if the two stones match. Most earrings in this catalog do not print a carat weight in the title, so compare the photo and the price instead of assuming a ctw.

Are these diamond and gold earrings good for everyday wear?

The 10K gold hoops and ball studs are the everyday pieces. They are harder than 14K and they start at $260. Heavier diamond hoops and large clusters are better as pieces you take off for the gym, the pool and sleep. Check the backing if you want them locked on all day.

Do you sell single earrings or pairs?

Listings are sold as the piece shown, and most are pairs. A couple of titles use the word single. If you only wear one ear, call 954-504-5640 about that listing rather than assuming a pair can be split.
