Men's Gold Chains Over $2,000
For a men's gold chain worn every day, the right pick balances gold content, hardness and price. Franky Diamonds' heavier men's chains are all 10K gold, which is harder than 14K or 18K, with 13 styles from $2,060 for a 5.8 mm flat Cuban to $4,960 for a 5 mm rope.

Why karat matters on a heavy chain
Gold purity is a trade. 10K is 41.7 percent gold, 14K is 58.3 percent and 18K is 75 percent. More pure gold means a deeper yellow and a higher price per gram, but softer metal. On a heavy chain that flexes, rubs and gets caught on clothes, the harder 10K alloy holds its shape and polish longer. It also means the same budget buys a wider or longer chain. The gold karat guide and our steel vs gold chain comparison go deeper.
Rope, Franco or Cuban
- Rope: twisted oval links. The Rope Chain 5mm ($4,960) is the heaviest-looking chain in the catalog and reads from across a room.
- Franco: tightly woven V links that form a square profile. Very strong and a top choice for carrying a heavy pendant.
- Cuban: flat, interlocking curb links. The round-link 5 mm is solid gold; the 7.5 and 8.5 mm are hollow for size on a budget.
Length and fit
Heavy chains hang straighter than light ones, so they sit closer to their stated length. At 20 inches a heavy chain rests on the collarbone; at 24 inches it lands mid chest. Brilliant Earth's men's guide uses the same marks. Go one size longer if your neck is thick or the chain will carry a pendant. Full chart at the men's chain length guide.
Weight, stamps and care
Before you pay for any gold chain, look for the karat stamp near the clasp: "10K" or "417" for 10K. US stamping rules allow the gold to fall short of the mark by no more than 3 parts per thousand, or 7 with solder. Our Cuban weight chart shows how grams scale with width and length. To keep a heavy chain bright, wash it monthly in warm water with mild soap and brush between links, as covered in how to clean a gold chain.
Quality checks on a heavy chain
- Clasp first: the clasp should be sized to the chain. A small lobster on a 5 mm rope is a mismatch.
- Even links: run the chain through your fingers. Every link should feel the same, with no rough solder spots.
- Drape: hold it up by one end. A good rope or Franco hangs straight without kinks.
- Stamp: 10K or 417 near the clasp.
- Construction: solid or hollow in writing, before you pay.
A heavy chain is a long-term purchase. It should look as good in ten years as on day one, and those five checks are how you tell. If anything arrives with a manufacturing defect, the shop policy gives you 7 days from delivery to request a return, with the piece unworn and in its original packaging.

Questions people ask
What width men's gold chain should I get?
For a heavy everyday chain, 5 to 6 mm. Rope and Franco look bigger than their width suggests, so a 3 mm Franco can stand in for a 5 mm curb.
Are your men's gold chains solid or hollow?
Most are solid. The 6, 7.5 and 8.5 mm Cubans are hollow and labeled that way in the title.
What length do most men wear?
Twenty to 24 inches. Heavy chains hang straight, so 22 inches is a safe first pick for most necks.
Can I try men's gold chains on in Miami before buying?
