Chains you can see, then keep off the sand

Two drives, depending on where you are staying

Miami Beach is not one pin. A hotel on 73rd is a different trip from a hotel at Lincoln Road. Both were measured to Unit 506.

StartMapped distanceClear-road timeThe water you cross
7600 Collins Avenue, North Beach8.5 milesabout 20 minutesJohn F. Kennedy Causeway, about 1.9 miles of it
Lincoln Road11.6 milesabout 22 minutesJulia Tuttle Causeway, then about 1.8 miles on I-95

The North Beach route leaves Collins, uses 71st Street and Normandy Drive, crosses the causeway people also call the 79th Street Causeway, then goes west on 82nd and 81st into NW 79th Street for the last mile and a half. The Lincoln Road route goes up Alton, across the Julia Tuttle, north on I-95, and west on NW 79th Street. Weekend causeway traffic makes both clocks fiction. Leave before you are late, and message when you are actually on the mainland.

There is no Franky counter on Collins, in Bal Harbour, or in a South Beach hotel shop. Unit 506, Northside Shopping Center area, is the door. If a concierge sends you downtown to the Seybold, that is a different building at 36 NE 1st Street, covered on the district guide.

What to buy if you are going back to the sand

Real gold and the ocean do not love each other. Salt and chlorine are hard on chains and on earring posts. If the piece is for a trip and then a flight, think about when she will wear it. A thin 10K chain from $290 can live in a hotel safe and come out at dinner. A hollow 8.5mm Cuban at $4,870 should not go in the surf. The care notes are on jewelry at the beach and pool. Read them before you wear a new chain to the water, not after the clasp looks cloudy.

Pieces that travel well in a carry-on, because they are small, include the gold initial necklace at $365, the gold cross pendant at $430, and solid-gold studs at $325. Diamond earrings in the file start at $349 and run to $4,115. Hoops run $270 to $3,295. Try the diameter in person if you can. A hoop that looked delicate online can be a lot of metal on a small ear.

Lab diamond rings, if the beach trip is actually a proposal, run $1,050 to $8,500 and are marked E, VS1. Buy the ring before you pick the sand. The sequence is on the proposal page.

Call before you pay for causeway traffic

Google lists Monday to Saturday, 10 AM to 7 PM, closed Sunday. Confirm with 954-504-5640 or @frankydiamonds. A closed Sunday is a bad thing to discover after the Julia Tuttle. Same-day visits happen only when the shop says yes that morning and the piece is still in the case.

Say which side of the beach you are starting from, so they know you are 20 minutes out or 40. Ask them to hold the conversation if you are stuck on the causeway. Parking at the center is something you ask about in that same message. This page will not invent a garage.

If the train is easier than the causeway, Northside station is at 3150 NW 79th Street, about 0.4 miles west of Unit 506, on the Green Line. Getting from Miami Beach to that station can mean the 79 bus corridor along 79th Street. Check Miami-Dade Transit the day you go. The station facts are on the showroom page.

Ship it to the hotel, or ship it home

Insured shipping is the clean option if you do not want a chain in a rental car. The shop ships. It does not publish a bike courier to Collins Avenue. There is no beach pickup point. You either come to Unit 506 or the box goes to an address.

All sales are final. The 7-day window is a manufacturing defect, unworn, tags, original packaging, receipt. A hoop that felt heavy at dinner is not a defect. Choose the size at the counter or from a piece she already owns. Custom work, if you want a name in the gold, is designed and priced before it is made. No day count is published, so do not tie it to a checkout flight unless the shop writes the date. See custom jewelry.

The shop has been in Miami since 2010. The family has been in the trade since 1990. "We ain't cuttin no corners" is the motto. It does not build a second store on Ocean Drive.

A Cuban, if the beach closet needs one real chain

10K Cuban links are the thing people fly in wanting to see. The 1.50mm Miami Cuban is $495. Flat widths are $1,355 at 3.7mm, $1,880 at 5mm, and $2,060 at 5.8mm. A different 5mm Miami Cuban is $4,260. Hollow starts at 6mm for $2,090 and reaches 8.5mm at $4,870. Hold two before you decide. The difference between flat and hollow is the whole purchase.

Read Cuban versus Miami Cuban on the causeway if someone else is driving. The style's local story is here. Then put the chain on, take it off for the ocean later, and ship it home insured if you are not checking a bag you trust.

One door. Unit 506. The rest is traffic.
