Diamond Tennis Chains
A tennis chain is a flexible line of matched diamonds, each in its own setting, sold by stone width in millimeters and total carat weight. Four-prong settings show the most light and bezels protect the most. Franky Diamonds sets them in gold with lab-grown or natural diamonds, listed by origin, color and clarity.
Diamond tennis chains
See allWhat a tennis chain is and how it is sold
A tennis chain is a row of same-size diamonds linked edge to edge, with no plain chain between them. Two numbers describe it: the width of each stone in millimeters, and the total carat weight (ctw) of all the stones together. Length changes the ctw, because a longer chain holds more stones. That is why two "4 mm" chains can carry very different carat totals at 18 and 24 inches. There is no reliable universal millimeter-to-carat chart, so always compare the ctw on the listing, not just the width. Our tennis chain size and carat chart shows typical ranges.

Prongs, bezels and the clasp
- Four-prong: the most common recommendation for tennis pieces because the most light reaches each stone.
- Bezel: a rim of metal around each stone. Less sparkle, more protection from knocks.
- Clasp: a box clasp with a side safety latch is standard. On a chain this heavy, the latch is what stops a dropped chain.
A tennis chain is "solid" in the sense that every setting is solid metal. There is no hollow tennis chain. What varies is how much gold surrounds each stone.
Width and length for a men's tennis chain
Three to 4 mm stones read as a clean line on the neck. Five mm and up reads as a statement on its own. For length, 20 to 22 inches is the common range for men, because a tennis chain looks best lying flat across the collarbone rather than hanging low. Pair it with a gold Cuban for a stack, a combo we cover in Cuban link vs tennis chain.
Lab-grown vs natural on a tennis chain
A tennis chain uses dozens of matched stones, so the price gap between lab-grown and natural adds up fast. Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds and must be disclosed as lab-grown under FTC rules. They let you buy bigger or whiter stones for the money. Natural stones cost more and appeal to buyers who want rarity. Grading matters more than origin for looks: E color, VS1 clarity stones look icy and clean to the eye. Read the tennis chain buying guide and what an iced out chain costs.
Tennis chain vs gold Cuban vs iced Cuban
| Tennis chain | Gold Cuban | Iced Cuban | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What you see | A line of single diamonds | Polished gold links | Gold links covered in stones |
| Where the value sits | Carats | Grams of gold | Both |
| Flex | Very flexible, drapes | Stiffer, lies flat | Stiff and heavy |
| Best worn | Alone or stacked over gold | Alone or with a pendant | Alone |
| Weak point | Prongs and clasp | Dents if hollow | Clasp and loose stones |
Stacking a tennis chain over a plain gold Cuban is the most common way to wear both.
Care and custom builds
Soak a tennis chain in warm soapy water, brush the back of each setting with a soft toothbrush and dry it flat. Do not hang it wet. Check the prongs and clasp every few months. If you want a specific stone size, metal or length, the custom process gives you a design and an exact price before anything is made. Every order ships insured. Browse the plain gold side at all chains or visit the showroom at 7900 NW 27th Ave, Unit 506.
Questions people ask
What width diamond tennis chain should I get?
Three to 4 mm stones suit most men for daily wear. Five mm and up is a bold piece meant to be noticed.
Are your diamond tennis chains solid or hollow?
Tennis chains are built from individual solid metal settings, so there is no hollow version. Compare the setting style and total carat weight instead.
What length do most men wear?
Most men wear a tennis chain at 20 to 22 inches, where it sits flat on the collarbone. Longer lengths add stones and carats, so they cost more.
