Diamond Solitaire Necklaces
A solitaire necklace holds one center diamond on a fine chain, so the stone's cut and color matter more than on any other necklace style. Franky Diamonds' closest stock piece is the 14K Soul-itaire Halo Pendant Necklace at $640, and true solitaires are built through the custom process in lab-grown or natural diamonds.

See allCarat to millimeters on a solitaire
On a solitaire, size is what people see first. This is roughly how a round diamond's carat weight translates into width across the top. Exact size depends on cut proportions.
| Carat | Approx. diameter | On the neck |
|---|---|---|
| 0.25 ct | 4.1 mm | A small, quiet point of light |
| 0.50 ct | 5.2 mm | Visible across a table |
| 0.75 ct | 5.8 mm | Clearly a diamond necklace |
| 1.00 ct | 6.5 mm | The classic gift size |
| 1.50 ct | 7.4 mm | Reads from across a room |
| 2.00 ct | 8.2 mm | A statement solitaire |
Why cut and color matter most here
With one stone there is nothing to hide behind. Cut decides how much light comes back to the eye; GIA lists it first among the 4Cs for that reason. Color shows more on a single stone than on a pavé field, especially in white gold. E color, the house standard on graded stones, is the second-highest grade and looks icy white. Clarity matters less than people think: GIA notes VS and VVS stones usually look the same to the naked eye, so VS1 gives you a clean-looking stone without paying for invisible differences. Read what VVS diamonds are.
Prong, bezel or halo
- Four or six prongs: the most light and the classic solitaire look.
- Bezel: a gold rim around the stone. Safest for daily wear and a clean modern look.
- Halo: small diamonds around the center, making it look larger. The Soul-itaire Halo Pendant Necklace ($640) uses this, with 0.2 carats in 14K gold.
Lab vs natural on one stone
On a solitaire, origin moves the price more than on any other piece, because all the money sits in one stone. A lab-grown center lets you jump a full size, say from 1 to 2 carats, for the same budget. A natural center is the choice for buyers who want a mined stone. Both are real diamonds, and the FTC requires lab-grown origin to be disclosed. If the stone is over about half a carat, ask for its grading report; IGI grades most lab-grown stones and GIA grades both. See GIA vs IGI, are lab diamonds real and the lab-grown guide.
Length and layering
A solitaire is a collarbone piece. At 16 inches it sits just above the collarbone; at 18 it rests on it, the most popular length. Go 20 inches with higher necklines. Keep the chain fine, 1 to 1.5 mm, so the stone stays the focus. To layer, add a plain chain 2 inches longer.
Choosing the stone shape
Round returns the most light and is the classic solitaire. Oval and pear look larger than a round of the same weight because they are longer, and they lengthen the neckline. Emerald cuts show fewer flashes and more clean, step-cut reflections, a quieter and more architectural look. Radiant combines a rectangular outline with brilliant sparkle. The house ring lineup uses pear, oval, emerald and radiant lab diamonds graded E and VS1, which shows how each shape looks at size. Pick the shape that matches the jewelry she already wears.
Building a solitaire, and care
Budget tip: diamond prices jump at round numbers like 0.50 and 1.00 carat. A stone just under the mark, such as 0.90 carat, looks almost the same size and can cost noticeably less.
The custom process runs idea, then design and exact price before anything is made, then the piece is made and delivered, insured. Bring the carat size, the shape and the metal. For pricing context, see diamond prices in 2026 and the lab diamond engagement ring guide, which uses the same grading logic. Clean with warm water and mild soap and brush under the stone, where lotion dulls it fastest. Visit the showroom at 7900 NW 27th Ave, Unit 506, Miami FL 33147. Questions people ask
What length solitaire necklace should I choose?
Eighteen inches is the most popular; it rests on the collarbone. Choose 16 inches for open necklines and 20 for higher ones.
Are the diamonds certified?
On a custom solitaire, ask for the grading report on the center stone before you approve the price. Reports are most useful on stones over about half a carat.
Is 14K gold good for everyday wear?
Yes. 14K gold is hard enough to hold prongs securely and keeps a rich color.
