Lab Diamond Chains and Necklaces

The short answer

Lab diamond chains use diamonds grown in a lab that are chemically and physically the same as mined diamonds, which lets you buy a fuller iced look for less money. Franky Diamonds' lab diamond house necklaces run $4,200 to $8,950 in 10K and 14K gold, graded E color, VS1 clarity.

Price per carat on the house lab necklaces

The fastest way to compare iced chains is price per carat, with the gold included. Here is that math on the lab-grown house necklaces that list a carat total. Each is one of a kind.

PieceCaratsPricePer carat
Round Lab Diamond Necklace 30 ct, 14K White Gold30 ct$8,950$298
Round Lab Diamond Necklace 21.35 ct, 14K White Gold21.35 ct$7,300$342
Round Lab Diamond Necklace 18.48 ct, 14K Yellow Gold18.48 ct$6,500$352
Mixed Lab Diamond Necklace 11.85 ct, 10K White Gold11.85 ct$7,900$667
Heart Lab Diamond Necklace 9.4 ct, 14K White Gold9.4 ct$5,300$564
Round Lab Diamond Necklace 9.18 ct, 14K White Gold9.18 ct$5,300$577
Mixed Lab Diamond Necklace 6.75 ct, 14K White Gold6.75 ct$5,500$815

The pattern is clear. Big round-stone necklaces come in under $400 a carat. Smaller totals and fancy shapes, like the heart and mixed-shape pieces, cost more per carat, because a fixed amount of gold and setting work is spread over fewer carats. If you want the most diamond for the money, round stones at a high carat total win.

What a lab diamond actually is

A lab-grown diamond is carbon crystallized into diamond in a machine instead of deep underground. It has the same hardness, the same fire and the same chemistry as a mined stone. A jeweler cannot tell them apart by eye; it takes lab equipment. That is why US rules focus on disclosure. Under the FTC Jewelry Guides, a seller must clearly say a diamond is lab-grown, laboratory-created or similar, and may not call it "natural", "real mined" or "genuine" in a way that hides the origin. Every house piece here states "Lab diamond" right in the title. Our lab-grown diamond guide and are lab diamonds real explain it in depth.

Why lab diamonds make sense on a chain

A pendant uses one or a few stones. A diamond chain uses dozens or hundreds. Any savings per carat get multiplied across every stone, so lab-grown pays off more on chains than on almost any other piece. The other benefit is consistency: lab stones can be sorted for matching color, which matters when 100 stones sit side by side and one off-color stone would stand out. On these pieces the grade is E color, near the top of GIA's scale, and VS1 clarity, which looks clean to the naked eye.

Width and length on a lab diamond chain

Stone size sets the width. A line of 3 to 4 mm stones is easy to wear every day. Larger stones or several rows make a statement. For men, 20 to 22 inches lets an iced chain sit flat on the collarbone, where the stones face forward instead of twisting. For women, 16 to 18 inches puts the line on or just above the collarbone. Length adds stones, so a longer version of the same design costs more.

Grading reports, clasp and care

Most lab-grown diamonds sold in the US are graded by IGI, and GIA also grades lab-grown stones. Grading reports are not printed on the product pages here, so if you want one for a specific piece, ask before you buy. Read GIA vs IGI certificates to know what to look for. Every diamond chain should close with a clasp that has a safety latch. Clean it with warm water, mild soap and a soft brush, then dry flat. For where prices are heading, see diamond prices in 2026.

Questions people ask

What width lab diamond chain should I get?

A single line of 3 to 4 mm stones suits daily wear. Wider stones or multiple rows make a statement piece. Stone size, not gold width, decides how big it looks.

Are your lab diamond chains solid or hollow?

Diamond chains are built from solid metal settings that grip each stone. Hollow construction only shows up on some plain gold chains, which are labeled hollow.

What length do most men wear?

Most men wear an iced chain at 20 to 22 inches so it lies flat on the collarbone. Plain gold chains are often worn longer underneath.
