Custom Men's Rings

The short answer

A custom men's ring is designed around the face and the shank, then priced before any gold is cast. You share the idea, Franky Diamonds sends the design and an exact price, and nothing is made until you agree. The men's rings in the catalog are 10K diamond pieces from $3,465 to $8,680, mostly signets and bands. Finger size is chosen on the drawing, because the finished size is part of what you approve.

Men's rings in the catalog

See all

Face, shank and the size you approve

A men's ring fails in two places: the face is wider than the finger can carry, or the shank is so thin that a heavy top spins and bends. The drawing has to show both. The face is the top, measured across the finger. The shank is the band that goes around the finger, measured in width and in thickness. Finger size is the third number, and it is written into the design you agree to. The size is decided while the ring is still a drawing, which is the point of approving it first.

The idea can be a signet with your initials, a row of baguettes, a wide band, or a top you saw and want heavier. We send a design and an exact price for that ring. Gold is not cast until you agree. If the face looks right and the shank looks weak, say so on the drawing. A thicker shank is more gold and a different price, and you should see that number before the wax exists.

Every men's ring currently in the catalog is 10K gold with diamonds, from the Apollo Diamond Ring at $3,465 to the Round Baguette Signet Ring at $8,680. That is a real ladder, not a slogan. Nine rings, all in that band of price and metal. A custom ring can leave that ladder, but the ladder tells you what this bench finishes for men right now.

What the nine men's rings already show

Read the list as a fit guide, not as your only options. The Apollo Diamond Ring is $3,465. The Diamond Cuban Ring is $3,885. The Cushion Prong Signet Ring is $4,545. The Classic Eternity Band is $4,870. The Round Prong Signet Ring is $5,315. The Baguette Pave Signet Ring is $5,415. The Zeus Diamond Band is $6,980. The Square Baguette Signet Ring is $8,110. The Round Baguette Signet Ring is $8,680. Same karat. Same broad stone tag. Very different tops.

Signets are the majority. A signet has a flat or low face that can take initials, a symbol, or a stone cluster, and a shank that has to stay comfortable under the face. The two bands, the Classic Eternity Band and the Zeus Diamond Band, are a different wear. Stones go around, the ring has less of a "top," and the width has to clear the neighboring finger. If you want a band like those, look at men's diamond rings first. If you want a top that is not in that list, it is a custom face.

There is no piece in the product file titled as a pinky ring. A pinky is a finger and a proportion, not a magic product. The face has to be smaller than a ring worn on the ring finger, or it looks like a borrowed championship ring. If that proportion is what you want drawn, the guide to read beside this page is diamond pinky rings, and the drawing still has to name the finger size you approved.

Width, thickness and how a ring feels after a week

Width is what you see from above. Thickness is what you feel between the fingers, and it is what keeps a wide ring from turning into an oval when it is bumped. A 10 mm face on a paper-thin shank will twist. A 4 mm shank under a modest signet feels like jewelry you forget you are wearing. Men who have never worn a ring almost always guess too wide, then discover the ring hits a keyboard or a weight bar. The drawing should show the ring on a finger of your size, from the top and from the side.

Weight follows width and thickness together. 10K gold is about 41.7 percent pure gold. A heavier ring is more gold, so the gold line on the quote moves almost in a straight line with the grams. That is why two signets with the same face photo can be hundreds of dollars apart: one is a shell, one is a block. Ask for grams on the design. A photo cannot tell you grams.

Comfort is the inside shape. A flat inner shank feels smaller than a rounded one of the same size number. If you are between sizes, the inside shape is part of the design, not a favor after the fact. Put it in the approval. The men's diamond ring guide walks through proportions if you want a second pass before you describe the ring.

Initials, symbols and stone layout

Initials on a signet need a face large enough for the letters to cast cleanly. Two thin script letters on a tiny oval become a smudge. Block letters survive better in small sizes. The drawing should show the letters at the real size of the face, not on a giant mockup. Depth of the engraving matters too. Shallow letters fill with soap and disappear. Deep letters take more metal out of the face, so the face has to start thicker.

Stone layout is the other half. A single cluster on a signet, like the cushion and round prong signets at $4,545 and $5,315, reads differently from a baguette pave across the face, like the $5,415 and $8,110 signets. Baguettes show chips on the corners if the seat is thin. Rounds hide a small nick better. On a custom face, name the shape, the approximate count, and whether the stones are laboratory-grown or natural. The FTC expects that origin in clear words. We put it on the quote next to the carat total.

A Cuban-link look on a ring, which is what the Diamond Cuban Ring at $3,885 is doing, is a texture choice. It uses more surface detail and usually more hand finish than a plain signet. If you want that texture with your initials added, say so at the start. It is one design, not a stock ring plus a surprise engraving.

Karat, color and what the catalog does not stock for men

The men's rings on file are 10K, in yellow and white gold options on the same styles. 14K is about 58.3 percent gold and 18K is 75 percent. A custom ring can be drawn in those karats. The gold value per gram goes up, and the yellow gets richer as the karat rises. 10K is harder, which is a practical point on a ring that hits gym equipment and door handles. Pick the karat for the life the ring will have, then let the price follow. Do not pick 18K only because it sounds higher, and do not pick 10K only because it is what the tray shows.

Lab diamond rings in the wider catalog are a different shelf. They are 14K white gold, color E, clarity VS1, from $1,050 to $8,500, and they are entered as women's rings, including a 1.5 carat round at $2,000 and a 7.01 carat at $8,300. A man can still use that spec as a reference for a center stone. It is not, by itself, a men's mounting. If the mounting has to be heavier, with a wider shank, that mounting is drawn and priced on its own. See rings for the full shelf and men's jewelry for chains and other pieces that sit next to a ring.

White gold and yellow gold on the same ring, which several of the men's styles offer, changes the way diamonds read. Yellow warms the stones. White makes them look colder and, to many people, brighter. The design should name the color. "Gold" is not a color in a quote.

When a stock ring is the right ring

If one of the nine rings is the look, buy that ring. Custom is for the face that is not in the list: a different letter, a different stone map, a shank built for a finger that the stock size range does not fit, a karat the men's shelf does not show. Ordering a custom copy of a $4,545 signet you could take home does not make the ring better. It only adds a design step you do not need.

Groups sometimes want one signet idea repeated, with a different initial on each. That is a set of approvals, not one approval with a shrug. Each ring still has a finger size. The master face can be shared. The size cannot. For a gift version of that problem, see groomsmen jewelry. We do not publish a group discount. Each design carries its own exact price, and nothing in the set is made until those prices are agreed.

Start at custom jewelry with the finger size, the hand the ring goes on, and a photo of the face you mean. Insured shipping covers a finished ring that leaves the showroom at 7900 NW 27th Ave, Unit 506, Miami FL 33147. A manufacturing defect has a 7-day window. No refunds. All sales are final.

What to check on the drawing before you agree

Check six things on the page that has the price. Finger size. Face width. Shank width and thickness. Gram weight. Stone count, shape, total carat weight and origin. Metal color and karat. If any of those is missing, the price is not comparable to another jeweler's price, and it is not comparable to a later version of your own ring.

Then look at the ring from the side. The side is where a heavy face meets a thin shank, which is the break we see people regret. If the side looks like a lollipop, thicken the shank and accept the new gold weight, or shrink the face. Both are legitimate. Approving the pretty top view only is how the lollipop gets made.

Questions people ask

Can you put initials on a ring?

Yes, if the face is large enough for the letters to cast clearly. The drawing shows the letters at real size, and the exact price includes that face. Block letters hold up better than thin script on a small signet. Nothing is made until you agree to the letters and the price.

How heavy is a custom men's ring?

As heavy as the grams on the design. Width and thickness set the gold weight, and 10K is about 41.7 percent gold. The men's rings in the catalog run from $3,465 to $8,680 in 10K with diamonds. Ask for the gram weight beside the price so you are not judging weight from a photo.

What finger size should I approve?

The size you actually wear, on the finger that will carry the ring. It is written into the design before any gold is cast. A wide shank fits tighter than a thin one at the same size number, so the drawing should show width and size together.

Are the men's rings in the case the same as custom?

No. The nine men's rings in the catalog are finished 10K diamond rings you can buy as they are. Custom is a new face or shank, priced on a drawing, and made only after you agree.
