Pure gold is 24K. Jewelry is almost never 24K, because pure gold bends. The karat mark is the fraction of gold in the alloy, and the FTC Jewelry Guides require that mark to be true.

Yellow is gold with silver, copper and zinc in the usual mix. Rose leans on copper. White gold is alloyed to look pale and, in the trade, is often finished with a rhodium plate that can wear.
