Buying guide
How Much Does a Cuban Link Chain Cost?
A plain gold Cuban link is mostly gold weight, karat, and labor. On this site every Cuban is 10K, and the finished prices run from $495 for a 1.5 mm chain to $4,870 for an 8.5 mm hollow chain. The same posted width can still double in price when one chain is flat and the other is solid. Compare quotes only when width, length, karat, and solid or hollow are all written down.
Cuban link prices on the site
See allThe price formula, in the order it actually bites
Four things build the price of a plain Cuban. In order:
- How much gold is in the chain. Width, length, and solid versus hollow decide that. Grams are the clean unit. We do not print grams, so you have to read build and width together.
- How pure that gold is. 10K is 41.7 percent gold. 14K is 58.3 percent. 18K is 75 percent. Higher karat costs more per gram because more of each gram is gold, and the alloy is softer.
- What gold costs that week. The spot price moves. A heavy chain moves with it more than a light one, because there is more metal to reprice. Kitco publishes the live number. We are not going to freeze a spot price on this page and let it go stale.
- Labor. Links have to be formed, closed, flattened, and finished. A hollow chain is still work. A diamond Cuban is a lot more work, because every stone is set by hand or by a machine that still has to be watched.
Retail price is not melt value. Melt is the gold if you scrapped it. You are buying a finished chain, so you pay for making it and for the shop standing behind the karat stamp. The FTC requires that stamp to be true.
Every Cuban price on this site
These are the numbers a shopper can actually pay. All are 10K gold. The price does not step up when you choose a longer length inside the range.
| Chain | Build | Lengths | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Miami Cuban Link Chain 1.50mm | Described as solid | 18, 20 in | $495 |
| Flat Miami Cuban Chain 3.7mm | Flat | 16 to 24 in | $1,355 |
| Flat Miami Cuban Chain 5mm | Flat | 16 to 24 in | $1,880 |
| Flat Miami Cuban Chain 5.8mm | Flat | 16 to 24 in | $2,060 |
| Hollow Cuban Chain 6mm | Hollow | 16 to 24 in | $2,090 |
| Hollow Cuban Chain 7.5mm | Hollow | 16 to 26 in | $2,870 |
| Miami Cuban Chain 5mm | Solid round | 16 to 26 in | $4,260 |
| Hollow Cuban Chain 8.5mm | Hollow | 16 to 26 in | $4,870 |
The jump that surprises people is the two 5 mm chains. Flat is $1,880. Solid round is $4,260. Same millimeter printed on the title. If a quote you got elsewhere for a "5 mm Cuban" is $900, it is not secretly the same object as the solid one. It is a different build, a different metal, or a different length. Our weight chart is about that gap.
What a 10 mm Cuban costs here
It does not have a price, because we do not list a 10 mm Cuban. The widest chain on the site is the hollow 8.5 mm at $4,870. Anything wider, or anything in 14K or 18K, has to be designed and priced before it is made. That is the custom rule: idea, then a design and an exact price, and no gold is made into a chain until you agree to that price. There is no "call and we will tell you it depends" price hiding behind these listings. If it is on the site, the price is on the page. If it is not on the site, you get a number before anyone starts.
Do not average the hollow 8.5 mm and invent a 10 mm price from it. A solid 10 mm chain is a different weight class. Shops that publish those chains are weighing a lot of gold. Use their grams, not our hollow price, if that is the chain you want.
Why a cheap Cuban is usually not a deal
Gold has a floor. A finished 10K chain has to cost more than the melt value of the gold in it, or the seller is losing money on the metal before they pay rent. When a Cuban is dramatically cheaper than the rows above, one of these is true:
- It is plated. A base metal chain with a gold skin can look right in a photo and fail in a month. It will not carry a legal 10K stamp. The FTC Jewelry Guides exist for this exact trick.
- It is hollow and the ad said solid. Our own hollow 6 mm is $2,090. A "solid 6 mm" at that money needs a hard look.
- It is shorter or thinner than the title. Measure.
- The karat is lower than advertised, or the piece is not gold at all.
A fair cheap chain also exists. Ours is the 1.5 mm at $495. It is cheap because it is thin, not because the gold is imaginary. The description calls it solid gold, and it is only sold at 18 and 20 inches. That is a real entry price for this style. The jewelry under $1,000 edit is where that chain sits with other pieces in the same budget.
Plain gold versus a diamond Cuban
Iced, fully diamond, diamond-cut: people mix these words up. Diamond-cut on a gold chain often means the gold surface was cut so it sparkles. It does not mean diamonds. Our Diamond Cut Rolo Link Chain 1.7mm is a $550 gold chain. The name is about the cut of the metal.
A diamond Cuban has stones set in the links. Every stone has a cost: size, quality, and whether it is a natural diamond, a lab-grown diamond, or something that is not a diamond at all, like moissanite or cubic zirconia. The FTC requires lab-grown diamonds to be disclosed as lab-grown. We do not list a diamond Cuban, and we do not list moissanite. The plain-gold ceiling in this category is $4,870. An iced chain of the same width should cost more than that, not less, because you are buying the gold and the stones.
If someone shows you an iced Cuban under the price of our plain solid 5 mm, ask what the stones are before you admire the photo. The questions to ask are in the diamond Cuban link guide. Side-by-side with a tennis line, which is a different pattern entirely, is in Cuban link vs tennis chain.
How to compare two quotes without getting spun
Put both quotes in the same five boxes. If a box is empty, the quote is not finished.
| Box | Quote A | Quote B |
|---|---|---|
| Karat stamp | 10K, 14K, or 18K, in writing | Same |
| Solid, flat, or hollow | The actual word | The actual word |
| Width in mm | Measured, not guessed from a photo | Same |
| Length in inches | Clasp closed | Same |
| Stones, if any | Natural, lab-grown, or not diamond | Same |
Only then look at price. A 14K solid 6 mm at 22 inches against our 10K hollow 6 mm at $2,090 is not a markup story. It is a heavier, purer chain. A 10K flat 5 mm against our flat 5 mm at $1,880 is a real comparison. You can do that one on a calculator.
Length is the box people skip. Our price stays flat from 16 to 24 inches on the flat Cubans. A gram-priced shop will charge more at 24 than at 16. If their 16 inch looks cheaper than ours and their 24 inch looks richer, check the length before you decide who is expensive.
The rest of the chain wall, including rope and Franco if you want a price reference outside Cubans, is in gold and diamond chains. The buying guide puts width and clasp in order.
What you are paying for when you buy it from us
You are paying the price on the product page, in 10K gold, in the colors that listing offers. You are not paying a separate "market adjustment" at checkout. Yellow and white are the usual pair. Rose gold, on Cubans, is on the solid 5 mm.
Shipping on every order is insured. If there is a manufacturing defect, report it within 7 days. There are no refunds, and the sale is final. That policy is why the build has to be right before you pay, not after you have worn the chain for a month and changed your mind about the width.
Use the rest of the wall as a sanity check on what a few thousand dollars of 10K gold buys when the pattern is not a Cuban. A 3 mm rope is $2,175. A 3 mm Franco is $3,425. A 5 mm rope, the most expensive chain listed, is $4,960. If a Cuban quote is far below those neighbors at a similar width and a similar claim of solid gold, the quote is not a favor. It is a different object. The flat 5 mm at $1,880 can be the honest cheaper chain. A "solid 8 mm" at $1,880 cannot, not in this market, not in this metal.

Questions people ask
Why are Cuban links so expensive?
Because a real one is a lot of gold plus the labor to turn that gold into tight, flat links. Our solid 5 mm is $4,260 in 10K. The hollow and flat chains cost less because there is less gold in them, not because the style is a different metal. Plated chains are the ones that look similar and cost a fraction. They are not the same purchase.
Is a cheap Cuban link real gold?
It can be. Our 1.5 mm Cuban is $495 and it is 10K gold. Cheap stops being real when there is no karat stamp, the price is far below the other 10K chains of that width, or the seller will not say solid or hollow. Under 10K, it should not be sold as gold in the United States.
How much is a 10mm Cuban link?
We do not sell a 10 mm Cuban, so we will not invent a price. The widest chain listed is the hollow 8.5 mm at $4,870. A solid 10 mm chain is a custom piece: you get a design and an exact price before anything is made.
How much is an iced out Cuban link?
More than the plain gold chain underneath it, because you pay for every stone as well as the gold. We do not list a diamond Cuban. Our plain Cubans top out at $4,870. Any iced quote under a comparable plain solid chain needs a hard question about what the stones actually are.
